Phobias and anxieties

Fear is normal in some situations and it helps animals to avoid threats. It is an emotion created by the presence of danger. Dogs can develop fears and phobias about almost anything. Fears, anxiety and phobias are sometimes the underlying cause of several behavioral problems in dogs and puppies.

Dog fears and phobias manifest in different ways and have particular characteristics.

Phobias are anxiety disorders characterized by abnormal, intense and irrational fears of objects or situations. For example, dog fear of fireworks is a very common phobia. The difference between fear and phobia is that a phobia tends to be an unrealistic reaction of something that may not exist.
